Please be in the MTAP House on Feb 18, 2012 at 9:00 am for a tie-breaking test.  It will be a written test to determine who will represent NCR in the National Finals.  (Both of you obtained a perfect score in the Individual Finals.)

Hi John,

Peace!!!

It is unfortunate that you have chosen to bring up accusations against a student vying for the top spot of Grade 6 in the National Capital Region. It is a common practice for supportive parents and teachers to listen and copy questions during MTAP competitions with the simple goal of helping improve their children for future competitions. There is nothing wrong legally and morally with this regard. The aim is to uplift the mathematical capabilities of the students.

It is more unfortunate that you chose to peddle lies by branding Farrell Eldrian Wu as a “bagito”. He has joined the MTAP competitions since Grade 1 while Andrea Jessica Jaba only joined MTAP competitions starting Grade 4. Please refer to the list from Grade 1 to Grade 5 taken from this same blog of Dr. Rechilda Villame.

Farrel Wu has many achievements in the field of Mathematics. In fact, he is expected to bring home more honors to his school and to the country in the upcoming years. He has won the Gold medal at the International Math and Science Olympiad (IMSO) on his second attempt, the Gold medal at the Po Leung Kuk PMWC on his second try, the Gold medal at the World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) also on his second try and the Platinum Award at the Asia Pacific Math Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS). With even more titles under his belt in the local front, how can you brand him as a “bagito” or even perhaps an underdog?

You are unfairly setting up another student (a minor), as well as her school, of having undue advantage at the very least if and when Farrell loses to Andrea. You are also insinuating that the MMC officials, led by Sister Coronel with the support of the Metrobank Foundation, are unprofessional in the conduct of the competitions.

Sportmanship is an attitude we would like to inculcate in our children. The participating students are gifted with an aptitude in Math and it is more important that we try our best to inculcate good moral values in these whiz kids. We should not politicize the competitions where in the end there are only two kinds of contestants – “ang nanalo at ang dinaya”.
